Arma woman faces felony charge in death of child

GIRARD, Kan. — A status hearing is set for 9 a.m. today for an Arma woman who has been charged in the death of her 4-month-old child.

Heather Buckalew, 25, is charged with second-degree reckless murder, according to Michael Gayoso, Crawford County attorney. She was arrested Thursday and is being held at the Crawford County Jail on $50,000 bond.

The child, Memphis Cash Harvey, died Aug. 31 in Arma.

Gayoso would not disclose the cause of death, saying that information will be revealed during the mother’s preliminary hearing.

“It took some time to get back the report from the forensic pathologist,” he said regarding the amount time between the death and the arrest. “I’ll be able to discuss more about the facts of the case after the preliminary hearing.”

The case was investigated by the Arma Police Department.
