A Carterville man pleaded guilty Monday to enticement of a child in an Internet predator sting case.
Charles E. Doennig, 35, changed his plea to guilty at a hearing in Jasper County Circuit Court in Joplin. The plea was part of an agreement with the prosecutor’s office that would limit the prison time the defendant might be assessed to no more than 10 years.
Circuit Judge Gayle Crane delayed formal action on the plea bargain and ordered the completion of a sentencing-assessment report. The judge set Doennig’s sentencing hearing for June 10.
The defendant was arrested Aug. 16, 2011, in a sting operation of the Southwest Missouri Cyber Crimes Task Force.
A probable-cause affidavit states that he made contact on the Internet with a task force investigator posing as a 13-year-old deaf girl and made arrangements to meet her in the parking lot of the Lowe’s store in Carthage. When the defendant showed up at the assigned meeting place, he was arrested, according to the affidavit.
