Four motorists hurt in traffic accidents on roads in area

PITTSBURG, Kan. —

A Pierce City woman was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday on Gum Road, two miles east of Ritchey in Newton County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Martha R. Hatfield, 58, was taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, the state patrol said.

Hatfield was driving a westbound vehicle that ran off the road, crashed through a fence and struck an embankment, the patrol said.

• Two Oklahoma residents were injured in a two-vehicle accident at 6:50 p.m. Monday on U.S. Highway 60, seven miles west of Neosho in Newton County, the state patrol said.

One of the drivers, Steven R. Lee, 63, and his passenger, David E. Puleo, 53, both of Jay, were taken by ambulance to Integris Hospital in Grove, Okla., the patrol said.

Their eastbound car was struck by an eastbound tractor-trailer driven by Timmie J. Gibson, 44, of Lone Grove, Okla., when the car pulled from the shoulder of the highway into the truck’s path, the patrol said.

• A Carl Junction woman was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 4:40 p.m. Monday on Missouri Highway 37, two miles north of Purdy in Barry County, the state patrol said.

Robin D. Struwe, 45, was taken to Mercy Hospital in Cassville.

Struwe was a passenger in a southbound minivan driven by Jonathan E. Rabourn, 41, of Cassville, that ran off the road and struck a utility pole and a fence, the patrol said.
