The cause of a fire that destroyed a vacant house in Joplin on Tuesday night remains under investigation by the city fire marshal.
Firefighters responded at 10:03 p.m. to a report of a fire in the 500 block of West 12th Street, and found fire and smoke coming from the rear of a small, single-story house.
Keith Stammer, public information officer for the Joplin Fire Department, said the fire, which was declared under control by 10:40 p.m., severely damaged the house. No injuries were reported, he said.
Utilities were shut off to the house, and the cause of the fire remains undetermined, Stammer said.
