PITTSBURG, Kan. — Police say the victim in a shooting Saturday morning outside a convenience store in Pittsburg provided a false name to officers and to the hospital where he was treated.
The Pittsburg Police Department initially identified a man, who was shot in the leg about 4:25 a.m. Saturday outside Casey’s General Store at 612 S. Broadway, as Trent Cobb, 22, of Kansas City.
The man was taken to Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg for treatment of a gunshot wound to his leg suffered in an altercation in the lot at the front of the business.
He was reported to be in stable condition at the hospital.
But police issued a news release Monday stating that their investigation determined that the victim provided a false identity, and that investigators were attempting to establish his true identity.
The statement did not say whether the man remained hospitalized. No arrests related to the shooting had been reported as of Monday afternoon.
