Several injured in traffic accidents on roads in area



A Springfield resident was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 8:55 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 44 in Lawrence County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

Fred A. Stryffeler, 56, was taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, the patrol said.

He was driving a westbound vehicle that ran off the highway near Mount Vernon, struck a guardrail and rolled several times, the patrol said.

• A Lamar man was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 7:50 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. Highway 160, a half-mile west of Lamar in Barton County, the state patrol said.

Corey S. Timmons, 31, was taken to Barton County Memorial Hospital in Lamar, the patrol said.

Timmons was driving a westbound vehicle that was struck in the rear by a westbound pickup truck driven by Mitchell E. Miles, 66, of Lamar, as Timmons was stopped for a traffic light, the patrol said.

• A 43-year-old Lamar man was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 10:34 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 43, two miles north of Bronaugh in Vernon County, the state patrol said.

Jerry L. Rowell was taken by ambulance to Nevada Regional Medical Center, the patrol said.

Rowell was driving a northbound car that ran off the road and overturned, the patrol said.

• An Anderson woman was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday on Missouri Highway 43, four miles north of Tiff City in McDonald County, the state patrol said.

Dakota M. Reinke, 19, was taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, the patrol said.

Reinke was driving a northbound vehicle that ran off the road, struck a tree and caught fire, the patrol said.

  • Two plead guilty to post-tornado wire theft

    Two defendants pleaded guilty Monday to stealing copper wire from utility poles in the wake of the May 22, 2011, tornado that struck Joplin. Timothy M. Silveria, 45, of Joplin, and Nycoa K. Kracht, 32, of Laurel, Ind., entered open pleas of guilty in Jasper County Circuit Court to felony counts of theft from a public utility.

    Kurt Millard spent most of last weekend in the Jasper County Jail, locked up on another man’s arrest warrant. The 26-year-old Joplin resident could not convince his jailers they had the wrong guy. “I got the run-around the whole weekend,” Millard told the Globe. “I didn’t even get to wish my mother a happy Mother’s Day.”
