Indoor marijuana grow uncovered near Stella

STELLA, Mo. — Newton County sheriff's deputies pulled 1,692 marijuana plants from an indoor grow operation discovered Tuesday inside a residence near Stella.

Chief Deputy Chris Jennings said a search warrant was served at 22830 Route D and a grow operation discovered that included ventilation, watering and timing equipment. The occupant of the residence, Jon K. Postma, 61, was taken into custody and charged with manufacturing a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

Jennings said the search of the house stemmed from a tip received by the Newton County sheriff's office.

"Once we had the tip, we started looking at stuff like electric bills and obtained enough to get a search warrant," Jennings said.

CORRECTION, 4:45 p.m.: A previous version of this story had the address incorrectly listed as "22839 Route D." The Globe regrets the error.
