Police investigate shooting

JOPLIN, Mo. — Joplin police say a 40-year-old man is in critical condition from a gunshot wound and they are trying to determine how and where it happened.

Police were called at 11 a.m. to the Horton Pizza Plus and convenience store, 1302 Schifferdecker Ave.

Lt. Darren Gallup said a man went into the store and told employees to call 9-1-1. Police found the man in critical condition and he was transported to a hospital.

Gallup said investigators do not know yet where the shooting took place, whether it was on the store’s parking lot or at another location. He said police are reviewing the store’s security videos, interviewing people in the area and waiting on a chance to talk to the man at the hospital to try to determine what happened.
