Joplin police make three drug arrests

Two car stops and a call to a motel resulted in felony drug arrests over the weekend in Joplin.

Officers who were called early Saturday night to the Motel 6 at 3031 S. Range Line Road concerning a matter involving juveniles arrested a man in the parking lot who had an outstanding warrant from Miller County.

A felony count of possession of a controlled substance was filed on Brandon Wiseman, 46, of Joplin, when a bag containing methamphetamine allegedly was discovered in his possession while he was being booked into the Joplin City Jail on the warrant.

A vehicle stop about 7 p.m. Friday at 22nd and Main streets led to the citation of two occupants for having open containers of beer. A search of the vehicle with the assistance of a drug-sniffing dog reportedly led to the seizure of some marijuana and a bottle containing alprazolam and Tylenol with codeine pills.

A passenger, Darrel L. Johnston, 46, of Webb City, was charged with felony possession of the pills and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

An officer attempting to locate a person who fled a vehicle stop arrested Harold L. Appel, 31, of Joplin, after a brief foot chase Saturday morning in the 100 block of South Maiden Lane.

Police Lt. Matt Stewart said Appel was wanted in St. Louis County as an alleged parole absconder on a robbery conviction. A felony count of possession of a controlled substance was filed on Appel when some meth allegedly was discovered in his possession during booking procedures at the jail.
