Aurora man accused of stealing billfold, medicine from purse

A 39-year-old man has been accused of stealing a billfold and medication from a woman’s purse in the intensive care unit of Freeman Hospital West in Joplin.

Cpl. Chuck Niess of the Joplin Police Department said Allen S. Sharp, of Aurora, was arrested Sunday morning at the hospital after an incident in the intensive care unit.

Niess said a woman who was visiting her ailing husband in the unit allegedly caught Sharp removing the items from her purse when she walked back into the husband’s room. Hospital security was contacted, and Sharp was arrested, he said.

Sharp also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia when a hypodermic needle allegedly was found in a pocket of his clothes.
