Pittsburg man under arrest in meth case

PITTSBURG, Kan. — A Pittsburg man was arrested on suspicion of manufacturing methamphetamine after Pittsburg police on Sunday responded to a suspicious chemical smell at an apartment complex.

The 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of felony meth manufacturing and felony possession of drug paraphernalia.

Pittsburg police were dispatched about 9 p.m. Sunday to the Sycamore Village apartment complex, 2601 N. Joplin St., in response to reports of a suspicious chemical smell in one of the buildings.

Officers reported that they found a meth-making operation and evacuated a building.

The Pittsburg Fire Department responded to ventilate the building, and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation assisted in processing the suspected lab.

Crawford County Attorney Michael Gayoso said he was waiting for evidence reports to come to his office before filing formal charges.
