Theft charges filed in two cases of shoplifting

Separate shoplifting incidents at a Joplin grocery store and at a store in Northpark Mall on Friday led to felony theft charges.

Police Cpl. Chuck Niess said security employees of the Sears store in the mall detained a woman for allegedly taking $582 worth of clothing without paying. He said Angie D. Johnson, 21, of Neosho, was arrested and charged with felony theft.

Michael K. Williams, 49, 301 N. Jackson Ave., was detained at the Price Cutter store at 1850 S. Maiden Lane for allegedly leaving the store without paying for a bottle of whiskey and two cases of beer. Niess said Williams was charged with felony theft as a prior and persistent offender with 10 previous convictions for misdemeanor theft.
