Drug charges filed after traffic stops

Two traffic stops over the weekend by Joplin police led to felony drug charges against the drivers.

Joshua P. Love, 31, of Springfield, was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and possession of marijuana after his vehicle was stopped at 5:54 p.m. Friday in the 1700 block of Morgan Street for having improper display of license plates.

Police Cpl. Chuck Niess said Love allegedly jumped out of the vehicle and tried to hide from the officer but was detained and arrested.

Niess said three bags of meth, a pipe and some marijuana allegedly were found in his possession.

Lakon T. Wells, 20, 1912 S. Pearl Ave., was charged with felony possession of Xanax pills after a traffic stop at 6:58 p.m. Saturday in the 3100 block of McClelland Boulevard. Niess said the vehicle Wells was driving was stopped in connection with a disturbance that had taken place in the county outside the city limits, and a search of the vehicle turned up 9 1/2 Xanax pills.
