Police arrest six in sting operation targeting prostitution

From staff reports

Joplin police made six arrests Wednesday in another prostitution sting operation targeting posters of online ads for adult services and their customers.

Police Lt. Sloan Rowland said officers involved in the operation arranged to meet “dates” in the city’s hotel district and arrested three women and three men. All six were charged with engaging in sexual activities for payment, a misdemeanor offense.

Two of the women arrested are from Oklahoma, and the third is from Strafford. The three men who responded to ads placed by police are from Noel, Granby and Webb City.

The Joplin Police Department has been running such stings for the better part of a year in an effort to curtail prostitution and associated crime.
