Bicyclist injured when hit by car near intersection

A bicyclist was injured when he was struck by a car at 2:25 p.m. Friday on West Seventh Street near Tyler Avenue, according to a Joplin Police Department report.

James P. Rice, 55, of Joplin, was taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, the report said.

Rice was riding a bicycle eastbound on the sidewalk on the north side of Seventh Street and entered the westbound lanes into the path of a car driven by Jennifer M. Cunningham, 29, of Joplin, the report said.

• A Joplin woman was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 1:06 p.m. Friday on Murphy Boulevard near the entrance to Ewert Park, according to a police report.

Zebrina A. Riggs, 19, was taken to Freeman Hospital West, the report said.

She was driving a southbound car that ran off the street and struck a light pole before coming to rest in the street on its side, the report said.
