Oklahoma prison escapee arrested at Joplin home

From staff reports

— The Newton County Sheriff’s Department captured an escapee from an Oklahoma prison Monday after locating him inside a house on Joplin’s south side.

Sheriff Ken Copeland said Alvin D. Boyer, 27, who escaped from the Oklahoma State Penitentiary at McAlester near the end of October, was located inside a home on McClelland Boulevard. The sheriff said Boyer and his girlfriend were hiding in the attic of the home but surrendered without incident.

“The homeowner said the escapee and his girlfriend showed up at her house two days ago,” Copeland said. “She said she had no knowledge he was an escapee.”

Boyer had been serving time for probation violations on felony convictions for bail jumping and drug possession. The sheriff said the escapee’s girlfriend and two other people at the residence were taken into custody on outstanding warrants.

Details of how Boyer escaped from the prison were not available Monday.
