Webb City man faces drug charge after car search

— A Webb City man has been charged with trafficking drugs after his arrest early Tuesday in a motel parking lot in Joplin.

Joplin police said Robert Vice, 58, was charged in Newton County with second-degree trafficking. He was being held in jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.

Police said a car was checked on the parking lot of the Sunrise Inn, 3600 S. Range Line Road, and that an officer smelled an odor of marijuana. A police dog was called to the scene.

Officers reportedly found a bag containing about 8 grams of marijuana in the undercarriage of the car, and a bag containing about 20 grams of what appeared to be cocaine inside the car.

Police said a third bag containing about 6 grams of a white substance also was found. It was sent to the Missouri State Highway Patrol lab for testing.

The arrest took place shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday.
