Quick arrest made by Joplin police in local carjacking

— Joplin police had a suspect in custody and a vehicle returned to its owner within 27 minutes of a carjacking Wednesday morning on South Sergeant Avenue.

Police said in a news release that a man, who brushed a woman aside to commandeer her car at 8:49 a.m., was spotted by a patrol officer minutes later on Interstate 44 and pulled over.

Damien D. Doxley, 35, of Joplin, was arrested, and the vehicle was returned to its owner by 9:16 a.m., according to police. The Newton County prosecutor’s office later charged Doxley with first-degree robbery, armed criminal action and tampering with a motor vehicle.

Police said the woman was not injured in the incident.
