Two face drug charges stemming from traffic stops

Vehicle stops by Joplin police in recent days led to felony drug charges against a Loma Linda resident and a Joplin man.

The driver of a vehicle that was stopped late Friday night at 15th Street and Murphy Boulevard for having no license plate lights told the officer that her passenger had some methamphetamine in his possession, according to Cpl. Chuck Niess of the Joplin Police Department.

The information led to the arrest of Harold J. Jones, 43, of Loma Linda, for alleged possession of a little more than half a gram of the drug in his cellphone.

Another officer stopped a vehicle with expired license plates near B Street and Jackson Avenue on Monday night and reportedly discovered that the vehicle had stolen registration stickers and a bag containing an assortment of pills, including painkillers, on the floor of the back seat.

The driver, Robert J. Rushing, 30, 1944 S. Oliver Ave., was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor receiving of stolen property.
