Charge dropped in anticipation of case transfer

The Jasper County prosecutor’s office this week dropped prosecution of a 41-year-old Golden City man on a charge that he sexually abused a girl under the age of 17.

Kurt Benecke, assistant prosecutor, said a charge of second-degree statutory sodomy that Frank E. Trudell had been facing was being dismissed in anticipation of the state attorney general’s office taking over prosecution of the case because of an issue with jurisdiction. He said Trudell is suspected of sexually abusing the girl Jan. 22 at locations in both Jasper and Barton counties.

A probable-cause affidavit filed in Jasper County Circuit Court states that the girl reported the assaults to police in their immediate aftermath and was interviewed at a child abuse center in Nevada, Mo.
