Carthage man charged with use of knife in assault

CARTHAGE, Mo. — The Jasper County prosecutor has charged a Carthage man with a felony weapon offense involving his girlfriend.

Francisco A. Alfaro, 36, was arrested after a disturbance about 9:15 a.m. Monday at 808 Limestone St.

A probable-cause affidavit filed in Jasper County Circuit Court alleges that Alfaro assaulted his girlfriend by punching her in the face with his fists while holding her against a wall. He then allegedly cut her arm with a knife and put the knife to her throat and told her that he could end her life “right now” before finally calming down and letting her go.

Police sought a felony charge of domestic assault against Alfaro despite the girlfriend’s refusal to press charges. The prosecutor’s office instead filed a charge of unlawful use of a weapon against Alfaro.
