— A federal grand jury has indicted a Joplin man for receiving and distributing child pornography over the Internet.

The indictment of Donnie R. Sumner, 43, was handed up Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Springfield. He is accused of receiving and distributing the illicit material between July 1, 2012, and Jan. 21, 2013.

The indictment includes a forfeiture allegation that would require the defendant to forfeit to the government any property used to commit the offenses, including desktop and laptop computers.

Sumner has a prior conviction for possessing child pornography and therefore could be subject to a federal statute imposing a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years without parole or up to 40 years without parole for a second conviction.

The case was investigated by the Southwest Missouri Cyber Crimes Task Force and Homeland Security Investigations.
