Several motorists hurt in accidents on roads in area

An Illinois woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 4:35 p.m. Monday on Interstate 44, two miles west of Sarcoxie in Jasper County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

Sherri L. Fox, 51, of Auburn, was taken by ambulance to Mercy McCune-Brooks Hospital in Carthage, the patrol said.

Fox was driving an eastbound vehicle that ran into the rear of another eastbound vehicle driven by William L. Young, 67, of Palmyra, Ill., as Young was slowing because of traffic congestion caused by a previous accident, the patrol said.

• An Oklahoma man was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 4:30 p.m. Monday on Missouri Highway 43, six miles south of Seneca in McDonald County, the state patrol said.

Christopher Schumpert, 46, of Grove, was taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, the patrol said.

Schumpert was driving a northbound car that ran off the road, struck a fence and a tree and overturned, the patrol said.

• A man from Texas suffered serious injuries in a single-vehicle accident at 2:40 p.m. Monday on Interstate 44, 10 miles east of Carthage, the state patrol said.

Michael D. Fisher, 51, of Dallas, was taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, the patrol said.

Fisher was a passenger in a tractor-trailer driven by Bruce D. Wanzer, 55, of Weatherford, Texas, that ran off the road and struck a rock bluff, the patrol said.

• A Joplin woman suffered minor injuries in a single-vehicle accident at 9:30 a.m. Monday on Missouri Highway 86, two miles south of Joplin in Newton County, the state patrol said.

Sheryl L. Rimar, 57, was taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, the patrol said.

Rimar was driving a westbound pickup truck that ran off the road on a curve and struck several trees, the patrol said.

• Two Cassville residents suffered serious injuries in a single-vehicle accident at 6 p.m. Sunday on Farm Road 2180, two miles east of Cassville in Barry County, the state patrol said.

The driver, Charles R. Edwards, 57, and his passenger, Jeanetta A. Phelps, 49, were flown by medical helicopter to Cox Medical Center South in Springfield.

Their westbound pickup truck ran off the road and struck a tree, the patrol said.
