Four adults, one juvenile arrested in home invasion

Four adults and a juvenile were arrested and charged in an alleged home invasion in Joplin.

Police Cpl. Chuck Niess said officers responded to a reported burglary in progress about 3:15 p.m. Sunday at a home on West 32nd Street and took five suspects into custody.

Niess said one of the five, Christopher D. Colon, 20, 1612 S. Connor Ave., reportedly knocked on the door of David B. Churchwell, 25, and went inside asking for someone he apparently did not actually know. Colon then reportedly asked the occupants if they had any drugs and was asked to leave. Niess said Colon then told the occupants that he was an undercover narcotics agent and demanded that they give him whatever drugs they had in their possession.

Niess said Colon was asked to leave again, and he did so but only after issuing a threat to return with friends. A short time later, he reportedly was back at the address with four others who tried to force their way inside, and police were called.

Arrested and charged with first-degree attempted burglary along with Colon were River W. Taylor, 17; Cheylowe W. Pennington, 17; and Bryan K. Murray, 17, all of Joplin. A 16-year-old boy was referred to juvenile authorities. Colon also was charged with impersonating an officer.
