Joplin man tells police of being knocked out

From staff reports

A Joplin man reported being knocked unconscious Monday night by a man he caught stealing some aluminum cans from his backyard.

Police Cpl. Chuck Niess said Timothy S. Reed, 47, was treated by emergency medical technicians after an incident at his home on South Wall Avenue.

Reed called police shortly before 10 p.m. and reported that he had been assaulted by a man he caught taking some cans he had behind his home. The man hit him three or four times, knocking him out, Niess said. Reed thought the incident may have taken place as much as an hour before he called for help.

Reed, who refused transport to a hospital for treatment of a cut on his head, described his attacker as about 5 feet 5 inches tall, with black, shoulder-length hair and wearing a black cap sideways on his head.
