Three arrested in meth-lab raid in Baxter Springs

BAXTER SPRINGS, Kan. — Three people were arrested on felony drug charges Monday night when authorities seized a methamphetamine lab at a Baxter Springs home.

A search warrant served about 9:30 p.m. at 1041 Cleveland St. turned up numerous items and chemicals used in the manufacture of meth and an undisclosed amount of finished product, according to Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves. The sheriff said the lab was large enough that the search had to be suspended Monday night and resumed Tuesday morning.

“It looks like the manufacturing process went on at least 50 times from all the evidence we collected,” Groves said.

Arrested and being held without bond were the occupant of the home, Jimmy L. Riddle, 43; another Baxter Springs resident, James Edwards, 31; and Susan Maxwell, 45, of Oswego.

Riddle was being held on suspicion of manufacturing meth, possession of precursor chemicals with intent to manufacture the drug, possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Edwards was being held on suspicion of conspiring to manufacture the drug, criminal possession of a weapon and obstruction of justice as well as 11 outstanding warrants for alleged failure to appear in Baxter Springs Municipal Court. Maxwell was being held on suspicion of conspiring to manufacture meth and obstruction of justice.
