JOPLIN, Mo. — A Carthage man waived his right to a preliminary hearing Thursday and was ordered bound over for trial on child pornography charges.

Patrick T. McKelvy, 21, waived the hearing in Jasper County Circuit Court on charges of possessing and promoting child pornography. Associate Judge Richard Copeland set McKelvy’s initial appearance in a trial division of the court for Jan. 14.

McKelvy was charged in February of last year after an investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. A probable-cause affidavit indicates that a search warrant was served on McKelvy’s home and several computers were seized after an investigator allegedly discovered files containing child pornography available on the Internet that were traced to his address.
