Victim in house fire identified

COLUMBUS, Kan. — An autopsy has determined that a 71-year-old man, whose body was retrieved from a house gutted by a fire Thursday morning near Columbus, died of “inhalation of products of combustion.”

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department said the autopsy confirmed identification of the victim as Homer Dale Bristow, the occupant of the residence.

The Cherokee County sheriff has said that there were no indications of foul play at the house, but the cause of the fire remained under investigation Friday by the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Sheriff’s Department.
