Suspect in custody in Carthage stabbing

CARTHAGE, Mo. — A fight in an alley behind a bar in Carthage resulted in one combatant being taken to the hospital with stab wounds and a second man being arrested for felony assault.

Officers responding to a report of a stabbing in the 400 block of Grant Street discovered Kaleb Spry in the alley behind McMorrow’s Triple LLL Irish Pub with wounds to his leg, according to a news release of the Carthage Police Department. Spry was taken by ambulance to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin for treatment of his injuries.

Interviews with witnesses led to the development of a suspect, and deputies with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department located and detained Steven M. Sloniker for questioning by police. Sloniker, 30, of Carthage eventually was placed under arrest and charged with first-degree assault. He is being held at the Jasper County Jail on $10,000 bond.
