Oklahoma woman’s shooting of husband remains under investigation

From staff reports

MIAMI, Okla. — A woman was taken in for questioning and released without charges following the fatal shooting of her husband this past weekend inside their home in Miami.

Police were called at 10 a.m. Saturday to 110 G St. S.E., where John Allen Largent, 38, was discovered dead from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Miami police Chief George Haralson said Largent’s wife, Joleen Largent, called 911 and reported the shooting. Haralson said she was interviewed by agents with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and Miami police detectives before being released without charges.

“It appears from evidence that this could have been either an accident or self-defense,” said Ottawa County District Attorney Eddie Wyant.

Wyant said his office will await completion of the OSBI’s investigation before deciding if any charges will be filed. He indicated that the investigation could take a week or two.
