Two arrested after meth lab explodes in Miami

MIAMI, Okla. — Two people were arrested after a methamphetamine lab exploded Tuesday night inside a garage apartment in Miami.

Officers responding to a report at 8:43 p.m. of an explosion at 926 E St. N.W. came upon a garage apartment with the windows blown out and a strong odor of meth coming from the interior, according to a news release from the Miami Police Department.

Police said it was determined that four people were inside the apartment when the explosion took place and that one fled the area. No injuries were reported. Officers secured the scene and obtained a search warrant. A “shake-and-bake” meth lab was discovered to have been the cause of the explosion.

The occupant of the apartment and a second suspect were arrested. Charges of manufacturing meth within 2,000 feet of a school, arson, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia were being sought. Will Rogers Middle School is 1,131 feet from the apartment, police said.
