Man charged with trying to steal wire



A police officer spotted a man allegedly attempting to steal copper wire from an electrical pole Wednesday night in the 2100 block of South Connecticut Avenue in Joplin, leading to the suspect’s arrest on a felony charge.

Police Cpl. Chuck Niess said Michael J. Johnson, 46, 1615 S. Pearl Ave., Apartment D, was arrested shortly after 8 p.m. and was charged with attempted theft.
