Motorcycle rider hurt in accident in Barry County

From The Associated Press

— A resident of Cape Fair was injured in a motorcycle accident at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday on Missouri Highway 39 at Cato in Barry County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Lessley R. Rumback, 65, was taken to Mercy Hospital in Aurora, the state patrol said.

He was riding a southbound motorcycle that ran off the road, overturned and struck a culvert, the patrol said.

• A Kansas woman was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday on Missouri Highway 37, three miles north of Pierce City in Lawrence County, the state patrol said.

Kala M. Heim, 19, of Leavenworth, was taken to Cox Monett Hospital in Monett.

Heim was driving a southbound vehicle that ran off the road and struck a tree, the patrol said.

• A Carthage man was injured in a horse-and-buggy accident Monday night north of Alba, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department.

Capt. Derek Walrod said Mark Grundy, 43, was taken to an unspecified hospital after the accident at 7:47 p.m. near County Road 200 and Lark Spur Road.

Walrod said Grundy and a woman fell from a southbound buggy that Grundy was operating when the brakes of an oncoming truck, which was slowing as it approached them, spooked the buggy’s two horses, and they ran into a ditch and struck a fence. As the horses and buggy caromed off the fence, the buggy ran over the fallen Grundy, he said.

Walrod said the woman did not require transport to a hospital, and the other occupants of the buggy escaped injury.
