Area man faces charge in theft

JOPLIN, Mo. —

A 21-year-old man has been charged with felony stealing in connection with the theft of a purse Sunday from a vehicle parked in the 2000 block of South Wall Avenue.

Joplin police Cpl. Chuck Niess said Darren G. Shockley, 723 N. Black Cat Road, was spotted by officers responding to a report of the theft at 2:18 a.m. Sunday, and was chased down on foot and arrested.

Niess said the purse belonging to Ashley Lefler was taken out of a vehicle, and contained a camera, a phone and other items valued at more than $900.
