Galena man faces charge of burglary

COLUMBUS, Kan. — A Galena man has been charged in connection with a burglary Monday southwest of Columbus.

Jeffrey Jones, 40, has been charged in Cherokee County District Court with burglary, criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, theft and criminal damage to property.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department, Jones fled the scene when the homeowner arrived home Monday afternoon. The homeowner followed Jones, notifying the dispatcher of the location and route. A deputy intercepted the suspect vehicle after it had slid off a dead-end county road.

Jones remained in the Cherokee County Jail on Thursday in lieu of $10,000 bond.
