Police vehicle, auto collide; three injured

From staff reports

GALENA, Kan. — A Galena police officer in a city patrol car was involved in a two-car accident at 3:57 p.m. Saturday at Seventh and Chicago streets.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that a patrol car driven by Officer Brandon Hay, 24, of Galena, was northbound on Chicago Street when it entered the path of a car driven by Brittany Hall, 19, of Galena, which was eastbound on Seventh Street.

Hay, and Hall and her passenger, Stephanie Hill, 16, of Galena, were taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Mo., where they were treated for minor injuries and released.

Police Chief Larry Delmont said the intersection is dangerous because it is difficult to see approaching traffic. He said the incident would be discussed in a department safety meeting and that he would address the safety of the intersection with the City Council.

Delmont said he was grateful that no one was seriously injured.
