Webb City man ordered to serve prison sentence

A Webb City man was sentenced to four years in prison Monday for unlawful possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.

Circuit Judge Gayle Crane assessed Joshua A. Allen, 24, the prison term after he pleaded guilty at a hearing in Jasper County Circuit Court in Joplin.

Allen’s plea was part of a deal with the county prosecutor’s office that limited the prison time he might be assessed to no more than four years.

He was facing the possibility of up to seven years in prison for the conviction.

The judge ordered that the sentence run concurrently with an underlying three-year term that he received in a previous felony drug possession case.

The defendant has been facing revocation of the probation he received in that case as a consequence of his arrest on the weapon charge.

A Webb City police officer stopped a vehicle Jan. 12 in which Allen was a passenger. A probable-cause affidavit alleged that he had bags containing marijuana and methamphetamine in his pockets, and a handgun in his waistband.
