Pineville man faces attempted murder charge in shooting of woman

BELLA VISTA, Ark. — A Pineville, Mo., man is in jail in Arkansas on allegations that he shot and robbed a woman there two months ago.

Police arrested Orville “Mitch” Goodwin, 61, in Bella Vista on Tuesday on a warrant charging him with attempted capital murder and aggravated robbery. He remained in custody Wednesday at the Benton County Jail pending a bond hearing.

Two people on horseback came across Annette Rapalee on May 11 where she had been left badly wounded in a dry creek bed, according to the Bella Vista Police Department. She had been shot in the face and may have been beaten, police said.

Rapalee was taken to Mercy Hospital in Rogers and later transferred to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Mo. She since has been released from the hospital and is a patient in a rehabilitation center.

Bella Vista police credited both the Springfield Police Department and McDonald County Sheriff’s Department in Missouri with assisting in the investigation leading to the arrest of Goodwin. Anyone with information about the case is being asked to contact Bella Vista police at 479-855-3771.
