Butterball security guard tells police of being stabbed

CARTHAGE, Mo. — Carthage police and other law enforcement officials are searching for two men after a reported stabbing Thursday night in the 500 block of North Main Street.

Brandon Goodwin, a 31-year-old security guard for Butterball LLC, told police he was walking near the plant shortly after 6 p.m. when two men walked up to him and one stabbed him in the abdomen. Police described the injury as a small cut.

The victim was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was treated and released.

The two men fled on foot, police said, and the only description the victim could provide was that one of them was wearing a flannel shirt.

Officers with the Carthage Police Department, Jasper County Sheriff’s Department and Missouri Highway Patrol searched the area but were unable to locate the two. The search included two tracking dogs brought in by the sheriff’s department, according to Chief Greg Dagnan.

Carthage police are continuing to investigate the assault and are asking that anyone with information to call the department at 237-7200.
