— A Joplin woman reported being robbed Friday by three men she encountered inside her home.

Velma P. Crain, 47, told police that she was surprised by a man with a baseball bat in her bedroom as she was coming out of a bathroom. She then spotted two other men in the bedroom going through her purse and preparing to steal a small safe.

Police Officer Michael Gayman said Crain was thwarted from stopping them by the man with the bat, who used the club to keep pushing her back into the bathroom. The robbers eventually left with her purse and the safe, both of which contained small amounts of cash.

Crain escaped injury and did not require medical attention.

Gayman said the robbery remained under investigation Monday without any arrests having been made.
