Traffic stop results in felony drug charge

A 25-year-old Joplin man was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine after a traffic stop by police.

Police Cpl. Chuck Niess said an officer stopped a vehicle for alleged speeding Sunday night near Fourth Street and St. Louis Avenue, and arrested the 19-year-old male driver for allegedly drinking under the legal age.

During the course of the vehicle stop, police obtained consent to search passenger David Garcia and found some alleged meth on him, Niess said. Garcia, 2822 E. Markwardt St., was taken into custody and charged with felony possession, he said.
