Police say death not homicide case; exact cause still out

Joplin police say no foul play is suspected in the death of a 28-year-old Joplin woman whose body was found Wednesday afternoon inside her home at 2405 S. Connor Ave.

The mother of Alissa Gutierrez discovered her death and reported it to police. An autopsy conducted Thursday morning in Springfield helped determine the manner of death was not a homicide, according to police Lt. Charla Geller.

She said the medical examiner is awaiting toxicology test results before issuing more specific findings on the cause and manner of death. The Jasper County coroner said he also will await those test results before making a ruling.

Gutierrez is survived by her husband, Stephen Gutierrez, and three children.
