Rural Joplin man faces two charges involving shotgun

A rural Joplin man was charged this week in Jasper County Circuit Court with felony unlawful possession of a firearm and felony unlawful use of a weapon after he allegedly pointed a shotgun at his neighbor’s face.

Douglas Williams, 53, 3896 W. Belle Center Road, was charged Monday after being arrested Friday by a Jasper County deputy. His bond was set at $10,000.

Williams is accused of pointing a shotgun in the face of a neighbor. Authorities said the neighbor said he slowly backed away, went inside his house and called the Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies said Williams admitted having a shotgun but denied threatening his neighbor. A deputy was aware that Williams is a convicted felon, making it illegal for him to have a gun.
