Grove man tracks his own stolen car, calls in authorities

GROVE, Okla. — A rural Grove man tracked down his own stolen vehicle, which was recovered by Delaware County sheriff’s deputies.

Mike Bernard contacted deputies to report that his vehicle had been stolen between 2 and 3 a.m. Monday from near his home. At about 5:30 a.m., he called again and told dispatchers he was following the car, not far from his home.

“He was out looking for it; we were too, but we got called away,” said Capt. Gayle Wells of the Delaware County sheriff’s office.

Wells said the vehicle, a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, was recovered with minor damage. He said a 17-year-old who was driving the car was arrested and turned over to juvenile authorities. He said the driver told deputies he was returning the car to Bernard.
