Lamar man ‘busted’ with stolen sculpture

LAMAR, Mo. — A bronze bust of American poet Robert Frost stolen 25 years ago from Wichita State University has been located in the alleged possession of a Lamar man.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol and police recovered the bust and arrested Mitchel R. Potter, 44, of Lamar, on suspicion of receiving stolen property. The state patrol said information received by the Wichita State University Police Department in June, concerning a possible location of the bust in Missouri, led to the arrest of Potter and recovery of the purloined artwork.

The bust created by sculptor Walker Hancock is valued at $25,000, according to the state patrol.
