JOPLIN, Mo. —
Two people were killed and a third occupant injured in a single-vehicle crash early today in Joplin, resulting in manslaughter charges being sought against the driver.
Police said the accident took place about 1:15 a.m. at the intersection of G Street and St. Louis Avenue. The vehicle was traveling too fast around a curve and ran off the street and rolled, police said.
Two passengers who were thrown from the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. A third occupant, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to a Joplin hospital with moderate injuries, police said. The names of the deceased and the injured were being withheld pending notification of their families.
The identity of the driver, who was placed under arrest, also is being withheld pending the filing of charges. Police said felony charges of manslaughter and assault were being sought because alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor in the accident.
