Police hear shots, find shell casings; no arrests made

Police found shell casings in the street believed to be related to gunfire heard early Saturday on the east side of Joplin, but they have been unable to determine who was shooting at what.

Officer Michael Gayman said officers patrolling in the area of the 1500 block of Range Line Road heard three shots fired about 5:20 a.m. Reports of the gunfire led officers a few minutes later to the intersection of 11th Street and Florida Avenue, where some 9 mm shell casings were found, Gayman said.

But the officers did not find any evidence of anybody, or any homes or vehicles, having been struck by the bullets.
