Task force checks 1,218 vehicles at DWI checkpoint

The Southwest Missouri DWI Task Force made seven arrests and issued 28 citations during a traffic checkpoint conducted Sept. 28-29 at Missouri Highway 171 and Prairie Flower Road.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department said 1,218 vehicles went through the checkpoint conducted between the hours of 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.

In addition to sheriff’s deputies and Joplin police, a Jasper County judge, members of the county prosecutor’s office, volunteers from Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and students from the Criminal Justice Club at Missouri Southern State University participated in the checkpoint.

Officers made one arrest for driving while intoxicated and one for driving while under the influence of a drug. One person was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, and a fourth arrest was made for resisting. There were three arrests for outstanding warrants, and three minors were cited for possession of alcohol.
