Several motorists hurt in accidents



Both riders were injured in an accident involving two motorcycles at 11:12 p.m. Monday on 270th Street, a quarter-mile south of 660th Avenue, according to the Crawford County (Kan.) Sheriff’s Department.

Chance Slaughter, 23, of Mound City, Kan., was flown by medical helicopter to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, the Sheriff’s Department said. Gene Vawter, 29, of Mulberry, Kan., was taken by ambulance to Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kan.

Deputies found two dirt bikes at the scene of the accident and Slaughter in a ditch being tended by a passer-by. Vawter was located at a home in Mulberry and then was taken to the hospital. Deputies said the accident remains under investigation.

• A 24-year-old woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 8:49 p.m. Monday at 15th Street and Connecticut Avenue, according to a Joplin Police Department report.

Amy L. Mason, of Joplin, was taken to an unspecified hospital, police said.

Mason was a passenger in a westbound car driven by Rebekah J. Arehart, 50, of Joplin, that collided with a southbound car driven by Emily A. Bunton, 23, of Joplin, the report said.

• An Oronogo teenager was injured in a single-vehicle accident at 9 a.m. Monday on Route D, two miles north of Webb City in Jasper County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Colten S. Owings, 16, was taken to Mercy McCune-Brooks Hospital in Carthage, the state patrol said.

Owings was driving a vehicle that ran off the road, struck an embankment and overturned, the patrol said.
