Two teenagers die in separate accidents in Barry County

Two teenagers died Wednesday night and Thursday afternoon in separate vehicle accidents in Barry County.

• A teenager from Golden was killed and an Arkansas teen was injured in a single-car accident about 10 p.m. Wednesday on Route J, a half-mile west of Golden, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Austin C. Turner, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene by Charles McManus, Barry County deputy coroner. A passenger, Wilian A. Marroquin, 17, of Berryville, Ark., was taken by private vehicle to Mercy Hospital in Berryville, according to the patrol

Turner’s vehicle ran off the road, hit a tree and caught fire, authorities said.

• A 13-year-old from Fairview died of injuries he suffered in an all-terrain vehicle accident Thursday afternoon on private property west of Highway 86 and north of Purdy, the state patrol said.

The victim was identified as Jet Lee.

Authorities said the vehicle rolled down a hill and came to rest on top of the driver. He was taken to Mercy Hospital Springfield, where he was pronounced dead.

• An Aurora man was injured in a single-vehicle accident about 2:45 p.m. Thursday on Highway 39, about five miles south of Shell Knob in Stone County, according to the state patrol.

James D. McCullah, 63, the driver of a pickup truck, was taken to Mercy Aurora Hospital, the patrol said.

The northbound truck ran off the road and struck a tree, the patrol said.

• A Carl Junction man was injured in a single-car accident at 1:20 a.m. Thursday on Joplin Street in Carl Junction, the state patrol said.

Cody J. Walton, 30, was taken to Mercy McCune-Brooks Hospital in Carthage with moderate injuries, the patrol said.

Walton’s southbound car was traveling at a high rate of speed and skidded through a T-intersection, hit an embankment and overturned, according to the patrol.
